So it turns out my little wireless doesn't work on the new baby. I've looked online and apparently there are several options. Just wanted to run it by the DPC gang to see what y'all think. Also, does the camera have to be on a particular setting for the wireless to work?
Thanks. |

Per the DP Review site, down in the "optional accessories" only the WT-4 remote is listed, and it is kinduva pricey bugger. On that Amazon page, though, they also show this off brand version for about 50 bucks, plus one or two others for less than that.
Shame that the one we have for our D90s won't work with the d700. It should work with my d7000 (if I can find the remote) and they added a rear IR sensor on the d7000. I sorta hated using this one on the d90, with only a front IR sensor--it seemed to work okay for family group portraits, as long as I was on the proper side of the shot or the lens blocked the sensor). I haven't been much impressed with it. Nor was I impressed when it turned out that the wired remote I had for my d80 was incompatible with my d90. Kind of frustrating.
As for settings, I think you don't have a wireless remote shutter mode--since there is no built-in wireless IR receiver. When you physically connect one of the above remotes, I suspect it just knows to respond to a shutter release input on the connector, without knowing at all that it is a wired or wireless remote. |

Chromey, that's a wireless transmitter for file transfer. Are you taking about the same thing?
Don't know if this will be adequate for your needs, but I bought a radio remote with 100 meter distance off ebay for about $15. Works like a charm. |

| Ah, you are correct--I didn't look closely enough. So that first pricey bugger is not the right thing. The other versions I noted are remotes, though. Thanks for the catch! |

I think canon would have been a better choice. :P

Nikon NIMC30
MC-30 Remote Trigger Release
1 $49.95 $49.95
Pearstone PERWN1
FreeWave Wireless Remote Shutter Release for Nikon w/10-Pin Connection
1 $37.25 $37.25
I just ordered one of each of these from B&H one for my D3s the other for my D700. Bother would work well for you. One is wired and Nikon, the other is wireless and aftermarket.
Matt
Edit to say HMMM I thought you bought a D700 not a D90....which do you have.

Both, actually. I had the D90, and just bought the D700, for which the wireless remote I have doesn't work.
Edit to add that I've updated my profile.
