I'm thinking about experimenting with "getting the flash off of my camera". I currently own a Rebel XTi and a Sigma EF-500 DG ST flash.

I don't know anything about triggering and all that jazz, but I'm looking at the Yongnuo YN-04II wireless triggers. Everything I find tells me that it will work with the Sigma EF-500 DG Super, but no mention of the ST. When I search for info on the differences in the two flashes, I find people saying that the ST doesn't do wireless E-TTL. Do I need that for the wireless radio triggers? If so, I suppose I need to try to sell the DG ST and get a replacement flash. Any suggestions for something inexpensive, but reliable? I'm on a tight budget. What else should I know?

I don't know about that model trigger, but I have the Yongnou RF-602's and they have not failed to fire yet. I also bought 3 Yongnou YN-462 flashes to use with them. Pretty basic strobes, but they do what I need at a dirt cheap price. I also have a Canon 430EX that I can use with them.

You don't need TTL unless you are in a situation where things are contsantly changing and you don't have time to tweak your settings. It usually takes me a couple of shots to dial in a decent exposure and I'm getting better at it. If you want triggers that support TTL, you are talking a lot more money.

I also heard that Yongnou has released the RF-603. The cool thing about these is they are all identical transceivers. The one on the camera gets set as the master transmitter and the others become the slave receivers. Have not seen any reviews yet, but I'll bet the strobist blog has them within a few days.
