I like the reworked version much better. Your subject is much more set off from the background here; so the background no longer competes for the viewers attention. Your original received a 7 from me... this would probably get an 8, maybe a 9.

The new version looks fabulous! I gave the original a 9 - would have certainly given this one a 10. Blurring the background more really helps and so does cloning out the earring on one side that looked like her chin was pierced. Great Job, Rooster!

The new version is better but the entry was pretty darn good to start with. Keep up the great work!

This is what it's all about! Giving and taking critiques--and improving! Bravo Rooster!

Great job of taking some well placed advice. The second version is better (but I did like the original and gave it a "7". Yeah, your sister is quite pretty).

I love the way my younger (but adult) cousins still call me didi... it's really nice.

So your title gets me in a good mood already!

I think the blurring of the background definitely improves the shot. It would be good experience to reshoot the portrait too and achieve similar effect with DOF only. Not because that's morally superior but just that it's good to be able to do it both ways.

I would also say that, even with the blurring, the strong horizontal line of the wood is still quite strong and the tilt of it bothers me a little. I don't know why.

I'd also like to see a picture with her eyes just a touch more open. I like this one with the serious expression but I'm betting she has a great smile too so it would also be nice to see versions with just the merest hint of a smile as well as with an all out grin.
