A user on my non-photo related message board posted this picture and asked for "honest opinions please". He didn't like what others had to say there, although they were honest opinions. He said they were "flaming" him. I am posting his pic here so that he can see what an "honest opinion" is. Please critique his photo. He thinks it's just wonderful.

| The gimmicky frame, shadow, signature, etc., makes it hard to focus on the photo. The textures are pleasing and the sepia is appropriate but having that wooden post so exactly dead-front-and-center confuses the viewer as to what is supposed to be the subject; would have looked better if shot from a different viewpoint, either left or right, to move away from being so totally centered. |

In the past I used to frame my photos exactly that way. Thought it was cool but the novelty quickly faded and not fond of it anymore.
I think this was nicely exposed especially it was taken when the sun was high in the sky...would have been easy to lose detail in the front shadowed area but not in this case.
I feel the same way about the post in the foreground.

| If you asked for "honest" 1'st I cant see the image because of the frame, 2'nd it looks to overburned or oversaturated or something like that. Anyways compositionaly looks good. |

I know that when I first started taking pictures seriously I thought every one I toook was a masterpiece (until the next one). Tell him to go and take 100 more pictures like it then come back and see what he thinks of it ...
