I will be breezing through Austin in the next couple weeks and up for photo op suggestions. Anyone have any?

Here is what's on my list so far...
1-The bat bridge at sunset
2-The State Capitol Building with its incredibly beautiful rotunda
3-The UT Tower, campus and stadium
4-Daniel Caswell House
5-Austin Skyline from Zilker Park and other nearby locations
6-Downtown bridges
7-The Pennybaker Bridge
8-Mansfield Dam
9-Cedar Park RR Steam Engine

I've never been to Austin so all will be new to me.

Anything interesting stuff off the beaten path works for me to.

Thanks... I took the opportunity to send each a PM myself. I also took the opportunity to email Gordon.

Shame Gordon isn't active on DPC any more - I love his people photos. For that matter, I don't think he has posted on Flickr for a long time, either.

I think Gordon is very busy. He's in the high tech industry which gets VERY intense at times and there is a tendency to hop-scotch from crisis to crisis.

Ironically, I got an immediate response from him with ideas that I added to my Austin "bucket list".

I'd love to see a photo of Gordon...hop scotching...LOL!

Gordon has such an amazing wealth of images and also information for creative adventures, AND he's just a sweet person too!

Have fun, Steve!

You have a great list to start! When you go to the Capital, go down the elevator to the third floor. There are some cool areas to shoot down there! I would hit 6th street for people and live music shots. Lots of cool graffitti in the downtown alleys!! City Hall is a green building and it's got some interesting achecture outside and inside. You might check out the Chronicle online and Austin360 for events going on while you are here. I have to warn you, once you get a taste of Austin, you might not want to leave!!!

A few places that come to mind:

Hamilton Pool
Mount Bonnell
Cathedral of Junk

When you're hungry the Salt Lick BBQ in Driftwood is a great place to eat. If you want to eat and shoot then go to the Oasis Restaurant. They have a great view of the sunset over Lake Travis.

Some more:

St. Mary's Cathedral
Umlauf Sculpture Garden & Museum
Barton Creek Greenbelt (map)

Heh...just what Gordon needs...another 8+ score...;-p

Actually, what I really appreciate about him is his ability to push past the score and play for the art. He knows how to give structure and breathing room while suspending oppressive judgmentalness. He's ruthless in the pursuit of knowledge and generously shares his experiences.

Thanks everyone for your wonderful suggestions... Austinians are obviously proud of their city and I look forward to seeing it.
