I was using the pop-up flash on my Nikon D200 yesterday and it made a strange sound, flashed really bright (bright enough to blow out the entire image)and now won't flash. The symbol comes up on the top display and the flash symbol blinks briefly on the inside after I click the shutter but no flash goes off. Any idea of what might have gone wrong or how to fix it? Thanks for any info!

I'm thinking your only bet is to send it in for a repair. I did some perusing online to see if I could find a cost, but nobody listed the cost of their repair (and the repairs typically consisted of fixing a flash that would either not pop-up or stay down, not a blown flash like what you seem to have).
If you've already tried performing a manual settings reset, there isn't a whole lot else to do unless you want to risk disassembly. You may consider a cheap flash to put on your hotshoe instead, but short of that, I think you'll be sending it in.
An update, if you do, would be great, for future users.
I perused the manual and it says the flashing flash symbol indicates a non-iTTL flash is attached and set to TTL, so maybe try manually setting the flash to see if you can get anything?

Sorry to hear the bad news :(

When I was getting my D40 ready for sale, the pop-up flash definitely worked that morning. But the day after the sale the buyer complained that it didn't work. Apparently she was told by some big-box electronics store staffer that the flash must have really been used a lot, but just the opposite was true - I hardly ever used it. She sent it in to Nikon and they must have fixed it free of charge, even though it was well outside the warranty period by then, as I never heard from her again.

So sounds like a trip to the Nikon plant may be the best thing for you.
