Just booked a short trip to Stockholm 6-9 March!
Any locals here? Whats there that I need to see/do whilst there.
I like to do as much as possible whilst im at new places, how realistic is a day trip to Finland?
I'd also be happy to meet up and shoot with someone too.

ETA: Just read how long the ferry takes to Finland..

Hey James. Stockholm is a beautiful city. You will find plenty to photograph, particularly in the old town. However, I should warn you that the weather at this time of year is not so great. It could still be very snowy and cold in early March, so make sure you have the appropriate footwear.

The overnight boat trip to Helsinki is a fun trip (I've done the reverse trip several times), but it would definitely eat into your weekend, so I wouldn't do it unless you were going for a bit longer. If you do decide to do it, then let me know and I'll give you some tips for a day in Helsinki. If you were coming at the weekend I'd meet up with you, but as it's mid-week, it's less possible as I live about 100 miles away.

I did initially plan to go for a few more days but the way the return flights worked it wasn't really possible. First thing I do when going to a new country is to check if it's possible to fit in another whilst I'm there..

What are the prices like in Stockholm? I will be flying into Skavsta airport which I hear is about 80minutes away from the city center. How expensive would a taxi service be? Or would I be better booking a shuttle service beforehand?

What are the average cost of say a pint or a meal?

Thanks for any advice :)

Definitely no taxi service! It would probably cost more than the flight. Definitely go for a bus.

Stockholm is not a cheap city that's for sure. It's been a while since I was there, but based on the pricing here, I would say your average pint is going to be around €6-€7 (although, of course, in Sweden they still use Kroner). Dinner, not much change from €25 (if keeping it to one or two courses somewhere relatively inexpensive). And if I remember, Stockholm is a more pricey than Finland. Still, it's definitely worth it, it really is beautiful.

Is there any chance that I could see the northern lights?

Stockholm more pricey? Helsinki was the most expensive city I've been to :-)
Here's an image for Sarah :)

Btw, the overnight boat trip is crazy! With all that food and drink you will definitely see some lights.

Well, it's been a while since I was in Stockholm, but I doubt there's much in it. Both are expensive!
I immediately recognised the phone booth :)

Northern lights may not be possible in Stockholm due to the light pollution amongst other reasons.

That's no boat, it's party central! Silja knows how to throw a bash! Don't ask me how I know 8-0

Yes, it's crazy and not for the timid.
