can anyone tell me how to reduce the file size on my photos? I looked around so just tell me; don't tell me to research. Thanks |

I don't mean to be a troll, but there's currently another thread about exactly the same thing on the main page. You obviously didn't look that hard.

I am not sure what the main page is but I donĂ¢€™t see the info right off.
To adjust the size you change the compression amount when saving the file. How you do this depends on the program that you are using. For some programs you need to do a Saveas as opposed to just a save. The compression amount might should up as quality, less quality would mean more compression and a smaller file.

As I am the one that usually kills threads I have posted twice:
//www.dpchallenge.com/forum.php?action=read&FORUM_THREAD_ID=105803 and //www.dpchallenge.com/forum.php?action=read&FORUM_THREAD_ID=105824. I guess the SC should lock the other two threads.
Click hereto resize using the Save to Web feature.

Hi Phil,
I see you are new to these parts and I'll see what I can do to help.
First, what image editing software are you using? If it's Photoshop, choose the Save for Web on the left-hand drop-down. From there, you can adjust the rate of compression on the image. Save for Web also strips out a lot of non-image data, further helping the file size. Noise reduction software can/will be a big help too. One of the most popullar is Neat Image. A 2.2MB image can have the noise removed and saved as an 850K image. Photoshop can handle it from there, or vice-versa.
If you are using something other than Photoshop, you may need to wait for another member to pipe in.
There is also a Freeware image viewer called Irfanview that can also adjust the file size & compression ratio, and has quite a few basic editing tools in it. I use it as my default image viewer in Windows.
Hope this helps

Phil,
To assist you in the future, we do encourage the use of the forum search box, located at the bottom of the main page. For example, typing "reduce file size" into that box and clicking search returns these search results.
To directly answer your question, check
this thread that faidoi found.

I think it's time for one of the talent members to make a tutorial for resizing. Volunteers? List of software to be included? |

I submitted an optimisation tutorial to Drew about a month ago which dealt with this stuff. Not sure what happened though cause I haven't heard back and it never made it to the site. I guess I could find somewhere else to host it and link to it if they don't want to put it on the site.
edit: spelling

Mandy,
I think they're running behind on some of that stuff, as most of their attention is focused on the DPCPrints update that is in progress.
Your best bet might be to use the "Contact" link under the help menu to find out for sure.

No, not at all. It's certainly a fair question. Since I can't answer it, the least I can do is point you in the right direction.
