Better than I'm doing. I thought I had a high 5 or low 6 shot. Shows you what I know. If I thought it was mediocre, I'd probably get a top 10 out of it.

Very mediocre score for a good image.

Does ANYBODY have a score above 6.0 in this challenge?
01/27/2011 09:20:35 AM · #180
i'm sitting at 99 votes, I want 1 more before i post my current.

Hahn atleast you got a favorite along side your mediocre score. What would you consider mediocre anyway?

DPChallenge used to be a very good gauge of the public appeal of an image. If an image scored above 5.5, which is the average score between 1 and 10, I considered the image to have above average appeal to the membership. Below 5.5, it lacked something. And, usually someone would mention in their comments the factor causing the deficit. That's the way it used to be.

Now, we seem to have a fad of lower votes being cast across the board... sometimes unfairly. Some newer members may think they can elevate their own placement in challenges with tactical votes. It's not true, unless.... (I don't want to go there this morning.)

I really like this one, too. Put it up thinking high-5 low-6, maybe even better. And it's struggled to rise from a ugly start of 4.7.

Gotta love the game, though.

NEXT!

That's my own feeling about the average as well. However, we are often unable to see out own work the way others do. You and I are both in the same range. Perhaps after the challenge, we can do a post-mortem to try and figure out if our entries were really that poor or not.

this being my first challenge, I fully intend on posting it to have people critique it.....tear it apart and tell me what would make it better sorta thing.

Where would I post that?

I think the trouble with mine is it's just too boring. I was bored with it myself but needed my update button fix. I really thought it would get at least a 5 though. Two really nice comments.

In other news, I took a photo for the household items challenge yesterday, it came out ok but I knew there was something missing.....late last night I figured out what I want from it and I am super excited to get home afterwork and redo it....

when the challenge is completed you can post in in a new thread asking for feedback, or even in the "outtakes" thread that opens after a challenge completes.

still waiting on that elusive 100th vote...

Good idea! And, you're right that we are unable to see the flaws in our own work. It takes constructive criticism from others to pierce the veil of blindness about our own work.

I wish I had entered this, I had an idea, but didn't realize the deadline was so close! Now that I've inspected my potential location, I think it would have made an alright shot (although it would have been hard to control the lighting... and people watching the security camera might have gotten suspicious).

Be glad you didn't, you would have just had to suffer through all the bad scores the rest of us are getting hit with on this one. I guess no one likes wheels. Who knew?

When I was right at 100, I was still at 6.01...but the last 4 votes have brought me back below the 6 range I was hoping to stay in.
