That kinda sucks that you still get the penalty even if you self DQ. If I entered a challenge then said, "oh crap...etc" i think it should be perfectly acceptable to pull out of the challenge without a penalty. Oh Well, rules are rules i guess

I like the rule. Otherwise people would test the waters and if their photo wasn't well received they'd pull out. No turning back. Full speed ahead. It's all for fun and experience, so why not.

A third time stings even more. best to save those for honest mistakes instead of pulling out of a challenge you're doing poorly in. Not sure on the specifics as I don't read the fine print on much of anything.

You just cant request another self dq within the next 20 challenges and if you get a regular dq within 20 then you are barred from entering for a week I believe.

I believe it's 25...not 20 unless they changed it recently.

Well, I'm actually a bit surprised that while my entry isn't really doing good....it's not doing terribly bad either. I fully knew that when I entered it that it would probably score low...as in mid to high 4's and I was okay with that because I just like the shot. I even took it with my other camera...my Canon S5 IS because I hadn't used it for a challenge in a long time and thought it would be fun.

Anyway, it did hover back and forth around the 5 mark a bit, but it's actually making it's way up a bit. Even if it stays around where it is I'll consider it a success because as I said this one was just to relax and have a bit of fun. Not breaking any records, but...

LOL...well if we all had a dime for every time someone commented that they felt like that we'd all be rich! I still check my score and update often enough, but I've learned that if I don't I still live and my score will continue to bounce up and down. :) Welcome to the challenges BTW.

have you started tracking your scores in the spreadsheet so that you can know what each vote is?

no not yet, next challenge i think.

speaking of, should i expect to see new challenges in a couple hours when two current challenges expire?

I'm not sure if I am inspired to do the Sentinel challenge :-(

Yes. Two new exclusive challenges will be announced at midnight EST. You may choose one.

With regards to the Sentinel challenge, the one thing DPC is good for is getting us all out taking photos. Regardless of results, it's good to be capturing images. Sometimes, when out looking for one thing, other things present themselves in your viewfinder. Serendipity is worth its weight in gold.

it's been one of the coldest winters on record here, most days it is in the low 20s. Colors are muted and ugly out, half melted dirty snow is covering everything. ....... All that being said I don't feel inclined to go roaming around outdoors looking for a shot. we'll see

We can only chose one? I was unaware that we had to decide between challenges posted at the same time!

Yes, the meaning of the word "exclusive" requires that members and registered users choose one of the challenges. At least there is a choice.

Yes, you can only choose one, but if say for instance you already submitted an entry to one, but had wanted to do both (which now you know you can't) you can always withdraw the one you already submitted and enter the other challenge instead. Naturally you would have to do this before the rollover and the challenge starts.

In general if you are a member you can enter the weekly member challenge, one of the Exclusive challenges, the monthly Free Study and any of the speed challenges that they have once in awhile such as the "Fireworks" challenge recently held.

So at a minimum a member can enter about 9 challenges a month not including any speed challenges they might have (which are pretty rare lately to be honest). That's more than enough to keep most content and busy. :)

ETA: FYI...you'll also notice that member challenges (Sunday start) are advanced editing rules. The exclusive challenges are most often and normally Basic editing rules HOWEVER from time to time one or both of those challenges will have a little yellow flag next to them on the front page indicating that the challenge might have additional rules or clarification AND that the challenge may have editing rules change. So for instance they might have exlusive challenges from time to time that allow advanced editing rules instead of the normal basic editing rules. Those flags are easy to overlook at times, but you'll get used to looking for them as you go along.

There are also times where the editing rule set is called Minimal Editing or Expert Editing so make sure you familiarize yourself with what you can and can't do under each rule set to avoid potential disqualifications.

The Editing Rules sets can be found here: Challenge Rules

Pah. You should automate that **** :) That way you can get awesome graphs like this, and there's no effort's required to generate it.
Darn. First 1 :(

voting always slows down for awhile when the new challenges roll over -- people are excited to see the new stuff, and ignore the old stuff. It'll picked up again as we get towards Sunday.

Lovely. I have entered the desolation of limbo. Aka. 5 - 5.5 where there is little hope for comments.

I've been flirting with 5 the whole time....sitting at 4.9XX for past couple of days. Now if only a couple kind folks would drop a few 6's to get me over the hump into the 5's!!

If one person voted one higher I'd have a 5 :) C'mon!
