Well I knew my photo for Extraordinary wasn't a great photo, but I was on vacation and had to throw something together when I was at the hotel. Anyway I thought it was an average photo, but I can not understand why I received 19 3's, 6 2's and 3 1's without any comments. Maybe 1 person who commented might have voted it low. So can someone give me some input as to why so many low scores, I know its not a great photo but I do not think it deserved that many 1's, 2's and 3's.

Here we go again... :-(
Turdave, it happens to everyone. And then, every challenge someone comes on and asks why they got so many low votes. Who knows? You got low votes because some of the voters didn't like your photo. The folks who gave you a 1, 2, or 3 are hardly likely to respond to this post and explain themselves. Best just to let it go...

I personally didn't vote on many of the entries, this one included. I stopped because I just didn't think many were in any way extraordinary. So rather than vote a majority of the images low I stopped voting. I think this image, for me, falls into that category. The scene, to me, isn't an extraordinary sight. It's just mountains, trees, and a lake not to mention in a park I generally visit twice a year. Attractive area, yes, but not extraordinary. As you said it wasn't a great photo so it wasn't a scene photographed in an extraordinary way. The mountains are soft. The clouds are not really dramatic and have blown highlights. The lake is just a speck.
So, I think if you didn't have an extraordinary subject or photograph something in an extraordinary way one would expect scores well below five because it didn't meet the challenge.

I didn't say it wasn't an Extraordinary photo, I said it wasnt a great photo. I thought the view was Extraordinary that is why I entered it even though it wasn't a great photo, so it meets the challenge. I live in Mississippi and we do not have anything like that around here. Thank you for posting what you think is wrong with it though. If one gets that many low scores he should at least get 1 person to say that when they vote low.

I have to agree that it probably got those low votes based on how well it met the challenge.
From a photographic stand point here are my thoughts.
Compositionally, I think it could be improved by cropping the rocks from the bottom. Light areas always draw more attention and this part of the image is distracting.
Lighting is a bit flat, most likely due to the overcast sky and unfortunately there is not much contrast in the clouds to add drama and impact.
BTW. I didn't enter or vote in this challenge, but probably would have given this a 3 or a 4.

To me, this place IS extraordinary! It's amazing, and I never tire of it. But to others perhaps, it's just 'one more landscape photo'?
Nice, cool tones, by the way!

Well, I am curious too to know why I am 136th. I guess you will never find these answers. |
