Dear all,
I'm planning to get a transitional lens for my glasses (spectacles), the type of lens that will turn dark in the sun. Is any photographer here wearing this type of glasses? What is your experience while taking photograph wearing this glasses in the sun. Thank you.

I've worn them for years and won't wear anything else. I do have trouble seeing the meter indicator through the viewfinder. Think that is a problem of light from the side rather than transition lens issue. Am thinking about trying the Hoodman eye cup; but, haven't sprung the $$ yet. |

I don't wear them myself, but the company I work for manufactures them. My wife and son wear them and like them. The major complaint most people have is that they don't darken behind windshields (i.e. while driving). I believe R&D has made some progress toward correcting that. For field work (photography and other outdoor work) I've heard nothing but good things. |

I've had auto-darkening glasses for 3 years, and have been pretty pleased with them. The newer version darkens and lightens much more quickly than they used to; they also have a driving version( as bvy mentioned) that darkens inside a vehicle. I also have trouble seeing the viewfinder meter, but that is the glasses themselves and not the tint.
Be forewarned that certain chemicals can etch / eat away this coating with time (solvents, paints, etc.) so keep an old pair of glasses around for such work. |

I wore them for the last 4 or 5 years. By choice my new glasses are clear. One problem was that they didn't undarken fast enough when going inside on a bright day. Another was that when using the lcd screen to judge a photo you are very likely to overexpose. Alas, the one time they might have been really useful was driving...
So hey, get back to work Brian. |
