Hmmm. Really liking the HDR bit, and that don't-do-anything DFine. Seems to work quite nicely that way, actually.

I am not, however, sold on Silver Efex Pro 2. Which suprises me. I find it slow and cumbersome and the window in which I'm working is smaller and WAY slower to respond to changes I make. I really do prefer the first version. May be that I'm just more familiar with it, but the new version just isn't doing it for me. I'll play with it some more.

Try pressing key "F". Should go to full screen. Then, you can close the left column (presets or adjustments history) OR the right column (adjustments) to give you a really full screen.

What he said; there should be no difference in screen size between them. It's just a matter of how you set up your windows, by default it uses a less-than-maximized window.

Yes, definitely. Although some presets are not basic safe

You betcha. There are vignetting tools, edge-burning tools, and u-point tools for local editing, and none of that can be used in basic editing. So for basic, it's safest to stay away from the presets. Otherwise, good to go :-) At least one instance of the SEP 2 border has been validated, and I have had one obvious example of it sail through without a validation request though I volunteered to SC to be a trial balloon, so I'm guessing even those funky borders are copacetic.

So I'm about to pull the trigger on the whole enchilada. I made an interesting discovery, which may or may not have been mentioned here before (I have a horrible memory and I think it's getting worse but I can't remember how bad it was) that it's $100 cheaper for the package as a whole if you buy it from B&H instead of directly from Nik. The downside may be that I have to wait for it to be delivered instead of getting the key online. And my trials all just expired. But $100 is $100!

There's also a coupon code that gets you 15% off when you order through the NIK site. It's NIKPSS .

Does anyone who uses Silver Efex Pro 2 for Lightroom on Mac find that you cannot use PSD as the file type when starting your edit? SE loads, and a messagebox appears that says the "file could not be found" or some such, even though the stacking file was created.

Most/All of the Nik apps can't use PSD from Lightroom.

Ah -- okay, thanks Neil. That's not in the docs. ;)

No real benefit to PSD. I just prefer to use it.
