Been trying, unsuccessfully, for the past week to get some decent pics of some particular species of birds, one being the Great Egret:

Problem is Egrets are skittish as hell and it's difficult to get close enough to get a good shot. Anyhow, a couple of days ago after about 2 hours trudging thru swampy wetlands chasing them, with no result, I decided to give up on the birds and change lenses to get some landscape shots instead. Just at the point of me not having any lens on my camera a hawk cruised gently past, carrying a rat in it's talons. It was no more than about 10m away. D'oh! What a shot it would have made.

So, today I decide to try another wetland area. Again no success with the Egrets or Spoonbills I was after. However, I did get a bit of excitement for my troubles. Whist sitting by the water's edge trying to get a shot I glanced beside me and spotted, only about 1m away:

For those not in the know, this is an Australian Tiger Snake and yes it's venemous! They are fairly common around wetlands at this time of year and it was actually the 3rd I'd seen for the day. However the others were from a somewhat more comfortable distance. Maybe I should stick to shooting sports?

oh no!!! A hawk with a rat?! How cool is that! You just need to carry two bodies so you have one long lens and one landscape ready. :)

That's a great idea. Could I get you to explain to my wife why I need another body (a new K5 would be nice)? :)
