Post your outtakes from the Layers challenge here.

This is not an outtake, it's what I submitted, but I was hoping I could maybe get some more feedback as to why it did so poorly. It's basically right out of the camera with next to no editing other than the crop (original is in the notes). I thought it had a quiet and subtle side that was maybe ignored with all the jocks and rockers around.

My guesses are:
1. Too bland and washed out. Needs more contrast to make the layers more apparent - Feedback I can agree with from Carlos1
2. Possibly appears desaturated/altered for a gimmicky effect - Feedback I can also agree with from dpurger
3. Boring as the day is long, in every possible way
4. All of the above (likely)

It's not a stunner by any means, but it did rack up a lot of twos and threes, and I'm hoping someone could shed some light on where I missed the boat. Thanks.

I gave it a 5, for reasons #1 & #2. I actually thought some sort of treatment had been applied to it to give it a sketch-like appearance and it didn't seem to work for this image.

Thanks for that. Yeah, I didn't like the high contrast look as those have been the weather conditions for the past six weeks or so. I'm tired of high contrast snow vs. trees, so I left it the way it was and thought it was a nice gentle look. But I agree it looks fake even though it's not.

Not a very strong image, I agree, and five is generous, but I thought all the twos and threes indicated a major malfunction.

It's just too flat, imo. I think with that small of a photo size, that you need more contrast to help the image. There's so much detail there, but it all gets washed out. I have a feeling that if we could view it larger, that it would work much better. But at this size, it just looks flat and lifeless.

Cropped tighter to just a few layers of hillside might have helped IMO. On another note, back in the early nineties I either biked this hill or close by. I was stationed in Mannheim and rode thirty plus miles a day in that region. :)
