For black and white I use Virtual Photographer, and I'm quite happy with that. It's HDR I want. I've been using Dynamic-Photo HDR and it's been okay (still only a trial version) and I've just downloaded Photomatix to compare - I think maybe it's better, but it also costs more. Not as much as the Nik program, though, and at least I wouldn't have any other expenses with that. But after I saw what Bear_Music did with the Nik program, I would really like to have the best.

For me Lightroom is the REAL Photoshop for photographers. Highly recommended and works with all Nik plugins including HDR. And it is much cheaper! I think many people stay with CS5 because they are used to it and/or they like a lot of local post-processing, masking, layers etc.

Thanks. That's something to think about. But Lightroom PLUS Nik HDR Efex Pro is still going to come to quite a lot of money. I'm not sure I can afford all that so soon after buying the 7D.

Well I've downloaded trial versions of both Lightroom and Efex Pro and it's looking like I'm going to have to find the money for them. I can't see myself being satisfied with any of the other HDR programs any more.

I have both Photomatix and Nik plugins by now. So far I prefer results from Photomatix but I will keep on experimenting.

My two weeks trial of Nik HDR Efex Pro runs out in an hour's time and I really must have it. I know I'll never be happy with one of the other HDR programs now. The trouble is I'm really not in love with Lightroom. Think I'm going to have to get a trial of the full Photoshop because the cost of Lightroom seems a bit high for a program I don't want. Photoshop was always something I thought of buying one day, but having spent so much on a camera so recently, one day wasn't meant to come around just yet.

Of course if someone can convince me that Lightroom has a place in my life... But I've been quite happy with IrfanView so far.
