why the pink background?
although overall they are both captivating photos.
EDIT - i could see the pink if both were done with the same BG, but that isn't the case.

They are the same background... one was taken during daylight, the other at night and Photoshopped quite heavily. But thanks :-)

i love the composition and the lighting on both shots and if the BG colors were a bit more similar they would look lovely hanging side by side. as they are, the colors seem to clash a bit, though...at least, to my eyes.

i'm not a big fan of the effect Neat Image has on skin, though. it's not as noticeable on her portrait because of the soft focus but it's evident on yours. no disrespect intended, i just feel that it removes all the character and texture of human skin and gives it an almost "mannequin" appearance.

just my opinion. :-)

actually, the neat image on her image is the one that struck me more..but I do echo sher's observations. otherwise I do like the slightly different shades in the bg and the expressions on both your faces. :)

Thanks, I know what you mean about the NeatImage thing, but if I had a flawless complexion, I wouldn't use it! Perhaps in the name of vanity I go a little too far with it... the same goes with Kate's portrait, I don't want her accusing me of taking unflattering portraits, so I smooth out any bad complexion as much as possible. I'll leave the character filled shots, literally with warts and all, for other people!

It's Kate's birthday coming up, and I was wondering if there's anything I can do with these two shots... maybe not a good idea if people feel that the bg colours clash. Anyone got any ideas?

hope you don't mind...i quickly did a little "replace color" adjustments in PS. mine is very raw work but i think with a little time, you could get the colors similar to Kate's portrait. anyway...just a suggestion. :-)

Thanks, it looks quite plausible to match the backgrounds...
But I might do it in b&w anyway, as it's a bit easier!

Thanks for the advice though...
