Hallo Nikonians,

I just bought a tamron 28-75mm. I tried the lens today and vignetting is so obvious.

is my copy a good one or is that normal for Tamron?
I uploaded some of the image I took and most of the images was taken with f/2.8

do you guys think it is normal? if it is not normal, i will go to the store and ask for repair/chances.

thank you and would be great if anyone can reply as soon as possible.

That's about right for full frame at f/2.8 — I run mine on a 5D Canon, and get similar results. If you used it earlier on a crop-sensor camera, then the results may startle you, but when you realize that camera was just using the center of the lens field of view, it makes sense. The vignetting will be less pronounced if you stop down to f/5.6 or smaller. Even f/4 shows an improvement.

It's not disturbing at all, in context; most, if not all, consumer zoom lenses will show vignetting at the wide-angle end when at their widest aperture. If you want less vignetting when wide open, you need pay a lot more money, or go with prime (not zoom) lenses. Bear in mind that the amount of vignetting your showing here is easily correctable in post-processing. That's if you find it objectionable at all. Some of us actually ADD vignetting in post, LOL.

@bear,

i do believe i have an other expectation to the tamron but i hope i will get used to it...thank you. i think i won't go to the store and won't ask for changes.

It is possible your expectations were based on reviews of lens performance on a cropped-sensor camera. See the following two quotes from different reviewers:

"Light fall-off [what we are calling vignetting] is very well controlled with exception of strong full frame corner darkening with a wide open aperture - especially at 24mm with some at 70mm. The Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 XR Di Lens is better than the 24-70 L and much better than the 28-135 IS in this regard."

"On the cropped sensor camera, this lens really shines. It’s very sharp. I can even say this lens is the sharpest Tamron zoom lens for a cropped sensor camera. Distortion, vignetting and chromatic aberration are all under control. However, you’ll have to live with the awkward zoom range if you’re using this with a cropped sensor camera.

On the other hand, when used with a full frame sensor camera, this lens doesn’t perform as well. Vignetting and chromatic aberration will start to show up, especially on the corners."
