hey there nutty, i'm no waterdrop expert but i used to use the 50mm 1.8 for faux macros - it's nice and fast too. just create a big ol' waterdrop to compensate.

Well you could probably even get away with your 55 - 250 lense. Do you have a remote shutter? I got one very cheap for like 20 dollars and I always use it. Either way, If you're going try water drops make sure you have a lot of light and try to set up something that will allow the drop to be in the same spot each time (so you can focus on a single spot before the water drops). I'm not an expert but I did some water drops a while ago so I kind of figured out all of this through trial and error. good luck. : )
