I've been frustrated several times by items being sold on Amazon that are available from a third party seller and listed as a brand name instead of the generic item they really are.

The most obvious case of this is a few months ago when a number of us here on DPC bought a Westcott refelector for a really sweet price to find it was a generic reflector. Still a good value for the price, but not what it was represented as being.\

I've also had several cases of ordering Ultralast batteries, (which is a specific third party brand I have had good experience with), and being sent a generic no-name instead. In fact, I received my most recent order yesterday, and not only were they generic, but I was sent a pair of chargers instead of the batteries.

I'm just curious how the Amazon marketplace functions that this appears to be a regular occurence. Anyone have insight or a juicy conspiracy theory?

shrug sounds like a juicy theory to me but i'm guessing it's 3rd party vendor specific problems, as my wife has done about 75% of her xmas shopping on amazon this year with no issues. (ps3 games, kindle, lots of electronics)

eta: to fix spelling

I hope you went (or will go) to Amazon's customer service because they seem to be extra interested in making sure their 3rd party vendors deliver what was ordered. I have found them to be remarkably good in all the dealings I've had with them. But that's mostly Kindles, e-books, regular books and printer inks.

I did contact the vendor through Amazon's "contact this vendor" link. I got a response today that they are sending me the batteries, and I can keep the chargers that were sent in error. I had also inquired if these were the brand name batteries I thought they were. They did not answer that question. I also noticed the highlighted vendor on the product page is now a different one with a different price, but this one is still in the list when you look at them all.
