I remember him mostly from Monday Night Football. Those were the days. I remember the time in the midst of one of Howard Cosell's orations a graphic was put on the screen comparing the NFL rushing records of Frank Gifford, Don Meredith and a big fat 0 for Howard Cosell. Don Meredith's laugh was great. |

Ah, that's too bad. In a sense he and I (and Howard) "grew up" together. I cared a lot about football at the time, see? He had bunches of class. More than Howard did, anyway :-)

During one MNF game they were showing a view from the Goodyear blimp. Howard Cossell was giving one of his useless statistics saying, "The Goodyear blimp, you can fit 126,492 footballs inside this magnificent flying machine." There was a pause of a couple of seconds, then Don added, "Either that, or one great big one."
Still makes me chuckle. |
