having a foreground makes a big difference IMO

A lot here do not have anything else apart fom the actual firework - including some buildings / people / land creates a sense of scale.

I agree jon. I received some comments on my Newspaper challenge entry (a fireworks shot) that said I should have cropped out the "bottom third". I knew I would get those kind of comments (and even mentioned it in my "Photographer's Comments" section when I submitted). I feel the best fireworks photos need to include other elements to give a sense of scale to the event.

BTW, I put up the rest of my fireworks shots (which I took the same night as my Newspaper entry) here. They are unedited, just cropped to 1.25:1 aspect ratio. I uploaded them mostly so the guys that put them on (Wolverine Fireworks) could take a look at "their show". Some are pretty boring photographically, but they wanted to see all of the ones I took. (I met some of the guys from Wolverine Fireworks last June when I was looking for a subject for my first DPC challenge entry in the "At Work" challenge.)

I love all of your fireworks, everyone! Great job!!!

Can you all post what ISO you used? I used a 200 ISO for my shots.

Sorry for the link issues, DPC won't accept yahoo image links for some reason.
