Is it reasonable to assume that the USB cable that I have for my camera will work for some other cameras, too? My sister has lost the USB cable for her Sony. Would mine work? The connectors are the same size, etc. Or is that a bad idea?

There are a few standard sizes of USB cables.

Check here at the bottom of the page for the right cable.

This one says it works for both Sony and Canon cameras. My USB cable for my camera looks exactly like that.

It has the 5-pin connector and everyting, just like this describes, which is exactly the same as the one for the Sony which is lost. So, there is no problem using it, as long as it's the same connectors, right? It won't fry my sister's camera?

Exactly. USB connectors that look alike are pinned alike. There should be no problem.

Can anyone else confirm this?

This is what "they" claim. If it weren't so, the claim to be a "universal" connector would likely be considered fraudulent. :)

One reason most inkjet printers are so checp now is they don't come with a cable ...

Costco usually has a 3-pack with a 6-foot cable, a 10-foot cable, and a 10-foot extension cable for about $20 (same price as one cable in the computer store), but I think they are just the regular "A" type, not any of the mini-plugs.
