You went at the shutter timing in a more concerted and directed fashion than I did, in a related effort. I messed around with doing multiple exposure durations in a single capture for my D300 by starting out with an overall scene (cityscape) and a brighter object (moon). Without getting into all the nitty gritty of the unrelated things, I shot pictures with the moon properly exposed, and then a few shots of it over and under exposed, and noted what the aperture, ISO, and shutter speeds were. Then I took a black card and through trial and error determined (by comparing with earlier made photos) what slit sizes corresponded to which shutter speeds by using a 5 sec exposure and passing the card in front. I always moved the card at the same speed to keep more consistency, altering only the slit size. Once I had my cards prepared, I could alter the shutter speed for different subjects as I wanted, by taping cards together and passing first one slit, then recompose, then the other slit. You could, hypothetically, build your "catalog" as big as you wanted and switch in the correct "shutter" for any situation you wanted, if you had the diligence... |
