Anyone know what happened to PhotoSIG? It seems to have vanished out of cyberspace. Poof! I didn't spend a whole lot of time over there, but I enjoyed browsing the site from time to time...

Could be a temporary DNS problem. I mean, that DID happen to DPC only six days ago, prompting a delay in Vintage entries. Not saying this is the same deal, but it could be. Don't get me wrong, I have absolutely no love for Photosig's full frontal nudity policy. And, I think the Admins at Photosig do not protect members from stalkers. That said, it would be highly unusual for a site like that to vanish, regardless of the drama implied.

Photosig used to be a premier site for learning to critique images. The site supervisors made terribly wrong choices in favoring abusive commenters vs. the rights of image posters. If, indeed, the site is now gone, then there may be a lesson to be learned for all.

I'll guess DNS problems for now. I await more evidence.

Just an update on photosig.com from whois.com:

Registrar of Record: easyDNS Technologies, Inc.
Record last updated on 11-Dec-2007.
Record expires on 26-Nov-2010.
Record created on 26-Nov-2001.

Looks like the domain name was not renewed. As far as I know, this can be retrieved, but it may take a day or so to redirect... And, i think it costs more to recover a lapsed domain name. Not sure anyone can just snap it up and hold it hostage.

Certainly, if the website owner wanted to quit, he'd sell the site rather than let it vanish. So, we'll see in a couple days.

I just got off the phone with Willis, there is a problem with the domain resolving. And no he did not forget to renew the domain registration :-) He is currently at work and will be looking it again ASAP. Thanks for your patience!

Looks like our man Richard is pretty much on the money :-)
