I recieved this e-mail from a trusted friend who works in IT. I thought it was worth passing on to UK members and registered users. Here is the body of the mail:
Not sure if this is true, but it's worth being aware
'Postal Scam:
Can you circulate this around especially as Xmas is fast approaching - it
has been confirmed by Royal Mail. The Trading Standards Office are making
people aware of the following scam:
A card is posted through your door from a company called PDS (Parcel
Delivery Service) suggesting that they were unable to deliver a parcel and
that you need to contact them on 0906 6611911 (a Premium rate number).
DO NOT call this number, as this is a mail scam originating from Belize.
If you call the number and you start to hear a recorded message you will
already have been billed £315 for the phone call.'
Hope it saves someone having an expensive Xmas!! |

The update to the article was for the latest variant of the email (which was what was originally posted here), along with the updated response from PhonePayPlus.
That being said, it's always a good idea to get people aware of this kind of scam, because it was real (for this particular case) for a period of time, and general awareness and caution is always beneficial.

There are a few scams like this. Autotrader seems to be full at the moment of adverts for ultra-cheap cars where the contact number looks rather unconventional. I guess that a few people will fall for it...
