Whilst these are all awesome pictures, how many of them are actually shot AT 1.2??
I'd imagine that at 1.2, if you focus on the tip of the nose, the eyes would be out of focus..
Similarly, at such open aperture, a slight tilt or shift in either yourself or the model can potentially ruin the whole picture.
The 1.2 might be a complete different lens to the 1.8, but I'd imagine a 1.8 will do everything most people could want/need from a lens..

The 1.8 and the 1.2 are totally different lens. The quality of bokeh between the two is amazingly different, and yeah I actually use mine at 1.2 at times. And yes you better be right on focus....but it doesn't disappoint when you nail it.
F1.4 from this past sunday's shoot.

| Hey Jenn....tough choice. The lens fits you perfectly since you do a lot of portraits and some weddings. I up graded to the MarkII and love it. If you want to borrow my 85mm 1.8 to compare the difference send me a email and we can finally meet up...Lol. Good Luck. |

Huh???
OK, if you want/need video, well, it's not there. But seriously, the 5D produces beautiful files; there's very little not to like.
I'm personally in a similar situation to the OP, and I will not, at this point, upgrade to the 5DII. Why? The next iteration is due in a year or less. |
Focusing (Ok, but much better on the new camera, screen for chimping (5D is better than 20D, but not much), White Balance (had to shoot RAW 100% of the time), and ISO performance (1600 was max for great looking shots on the 5D)..
Just what I've seen, ymmv

Alright so here's the deal. I edit photos for a couple wedding photography companies. The neat thing has been that I have tons of photos I can shift through and sort to see what equipment makes the most difference. Hands down I can tell you that the 5dmkii should be your next purchase. The images it produces are excellent.
A couple of the shooters I edit for carry mkii's as primaries and 5d classics as backups. I can tell from the thumbnail which is which even if they are using the same lense. With almost every other camera I get in depending on the lense I can't tell which is which but there is just some "look" that camera produces that I love.
So...
Get the mkii... ....and send the classic to me! But dont tell my XTi I said that. She gets jealous... |
