Ok, someone gave me the idea to take a picture of book pages at 1.4 and see what happens.

Here are four shots, all at 1.4. The ISO at 200 gave me a shutter speed of 600-800 so that's not an issue this time. And while they are processed, I did not apply an extensive amount of sharpening.

The focal point of every shot was "109" on the right page of the book.

IMO, shot 2's focus was missed. Can anyone confirm that? The top of "109" is blurred and the paragraph below seems to be what got focused on.

What about sharpness at 1.4? Pretty good for this lens?

yes, i'd say shot 2 missed, but the others seemed to hit, so I'd say it's focusing ok (difficult to tell 100%, but it seems right)

I wouldn't use it wide open (f/1.4), but many people love that lens. It's up to you to decide if the image quality is going to be up to your standards.
