I'm worried that the Sigma I just got is over-rated.
I've taken some shots, though none of them in ideal conditions, and I'm not blown away. When I do a 100% crop, it just doesn't seem that sharp. Even at 2.8+. It doesn't seem to have any of the back-focusing issues that some people have had, but I was told it's sharper than the 50mm 1.4 and the 85mm 1.8 and I just haven't seen that so far.
The pictures I HAVE taken were with the subject somewhat far away so like I said I haven't used it enough to REALLY make a decision on returning it, but can anyone back this up? Is it a good lens or not? |

From what I've heard, the Canon 28mm f/1.8 is optically superior at roughly the same price. From what I've heard the Sigma 30mm is very so-so in focusing speed and accuracy, which could be where your problems lie. I've never used one, but nothing I've read would cause me to covet one, especially at the price point it occupies.
