The LA Times has a piece on the bipartisan commission which is coming up with ideas to trim the deficit. It is very interesting because I think it shows the amount of pain we are in for at some point in our lives. Deficit spending cannot go on forever. It looks like the recommendations, which probably target every sacred cow politicians have, may not even balance the budget (the article was unclear on whether it did this or not).

I think it's a sign of the times that people are even looking at this. I highly doubt it will actually go anywhere and you can already get a sense of the political positioning as interest groups make sure their piece of the pie is left unscathed (even if it scuttles the whole project).
