Marblehead Lighthouse on Lake Erie. Located in Ohio, between Toledo and Sandusky.

Would sure appreciate any comments. Thanks.

Very nice. I like the old fashion feel to it. Very nice perspective and composition.

Here is one of mine. I chose not to enter it as my June Free Study entry. I'd also love to get comments on this one.

Thanks for the comment. It was taken in Lachine, Montreal, Qc. Usually, the pier is filled with fisherman, but on this day the pier was closed to the public because of a big show happening. Only people involved could access it on that day.

I'm heading down to Kennebunkport tomorrow morning for a few days with the family. Hopefully, I'll get some good shots down there. I hear there are a few lighthouses around there. ;)

BTW, sorry to hear about your tanking June FS entry. I had high hopes for mine. It's doing well, but won't place too high considering the competition. Oh well...

Took me a minute to figure out the angle you took it from. I was there last yr -Marble Head
Looks like you were on the opposite side about the same time of day (late afternoon)
I like the shots composition & angle. There seem to be a loss a lot of detail in the darker areas though. I'd like to see a bit more variation in the trees & also the wood cross sections that should be in the window pane. That time of day is tough with the sun coming from the other side. It could just be my taste. I'm active in lighthouse restoration on Long Island, so I find myself appreciating even the slightest details of them.
In my own work, I'm learning that bringing out all or most of the detail in a B&W image when converting a digital color image is an art unto itself. Levels & curves are great tools, and Dodge & burn are my best friends now...lol Used carefully, in moderation, they really help you accent the wide range of tones in a B&W.
One thing I try to do in my lighthouse photography is get images without the people/tourists in them. Not always an EZ task. It can really wear on your patience at times ;) (and your back & neck as you wait posed to take the pic) Many people were milling around the day I took the shots on that page. If you look through the work of all of the current & past successful & respected lighthouse photographers, you won't find a person in them. It also helps you keep to the story of the lighthouse. Nothing to distract from it in the pic...it's what I try to do anyway. Hard to explain & you all will probably think I'm nuts...lol I feel like I'm trying to tell the lighthouse's story through the images. Convey their meaning & past. Around here they are a large part of the heritage on Long Island. OK, nough of that...lol

My PS skills have gotten some good practice over the last yr....maybe it's time to rework them from the originals :)

This lighthouse is stunning with it's red top over the white body. I'd love to see the color version.

Here's a color version. I have cloned out some people in this one. I also cloned a few people out of the b/w version. The people around teh top were just too involved to try and remove, so I just left them.

It was pretty crowded that day. I'm going back up that way in a few weeks and may make a return trip to see what I can do. I also wasn't really happy with this one because for some reason it was quite crooked. In the rotating and subsequent cropping, I lost the top of the lighthouse. :(

Ya Know , I thought the first B&W shot was nice , especially the sky & texture in the shaded area of the lighthouse , BUT ;the color shot is just gorgeous , especially in composition & sharpness . My only critique would be to next time either move away to bring down the lighthouse top more or bring a ladder , LOL ! Beautiful image !
