Have there ever been a Junior Photographer Challenge. My idea is that age will have to be verified but it should have been for the 13 and under crowd when they were signed up. I know that this would limit the pool but am curious to see what the kids can do.

Maybe 2 age groups, 12 and under, 13 to 18. Might even encourage a few kids with photographer family members to pick up a camera and maybe get hooked.

With all the holiday stuff coming up and kids having a bit of time off from school. There is lots of shooting possibilities and time to do it.

Not sure if there are enough kids on the site to warrant a kids only challenge but it might be fun for them to compete against each other and not the grown ups.

Maybe as a side challenge?
With entries so low recently, I think this would be targeting a much too small demographic for an actual challenge, even for an open one.

I am going to agree with that. Maybe have 3 open challenges when or if it happens? Just thinking out loud.

I agree that it is a small demographic. Love the idea of 3 challenges that week. One for each age group and one for the grown ups. My initial thought for the kids was that it be a free study type that they can take ANYTHING but a kid friendly subject might be good too. Any ideas there?

To get as many entries as possible, I think definitely do a Free study type thing.

I love the idea. I actually think the number of entries would be higher than you think. I think most of the photographers with kids or grand kids would encourage their children to enter. I know my 2 daughters would have fun doing it.

In my opinion it should be an open challenge, not just a side challenge. My girls love to watch me try and win ribbons, I think they would want to have the same opportunity if they were to enter one.

Also, how exactly do kids enter a challenge? Would they have to sign up for an account? I think everyone would really have to get the word out through the forums that this was coming up so that they have time to sign kids up.

I think advance notice would be great. then people would have time to make a plan, get a kids signed up, etc. My nephew, danger_weasel is a relatively new member. He's taking photography in High School now. He's just moved to Houston so doesn't have us to help with outings but will be here for Thanksgiving. Maybe this would make a good Thanksgiving break challenge. Showing off your HOLIDAY SPIRIT....

Interesting ideas floating around now. Maybe get the twins involved. They are 10 now and have had a camera in their hands and often have opportunities to shoot with us if they want.

Perhaps this idea of a KIDS ONLY, HOLIDAY SPIRIT challenge could be an extra challenge if allowed and running on a different schedule, like maybe the Wednesday before Thanksgiving for a week or perhaps during the Christmas break holiday. The kids would have extra time then and there are so many things to shoot too.

I say let it run from Thanksgiving through the December holidays.

@Bear...LOL! She's allowed one image per pack. It's usually a battle. She would prefer to fire off the whole pack.

I think that's a great idea. Plenty of time to capture the 'Holiday Spirit'

We could set it up as a side challenge and have it span from Thanksgiving to New Years. Or really 2 challenges. 12 and under for one and 13 to 18 for the other.

What do you guys think?
