Does anyone know of a way to maintain an AE lock on the 300D if you're using a remote shutter release?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the AE lock only works for the picture you take right after getting the lock. If you want to use the same exposure settings for more shots, you have to hold the * button down before depressing the shutter.

Does the 10D behave the same way?
