Clearly death makes me gag.
eta: sorry for the hijack. I failed to mention I like this challenge suggestion and I plan on shooting in manual mode with a random shutter speed and aperture, manual focus with duct tape over the viewfinder and in burst mode while running through city hall naked in an effort to take home the blue.

Sublime. The influence of this astounding work is clearly Dadist, and yet it manages to transcend even that genre, stepping as it does nimbly past the humdrum Surrealists and their platitudinous ilk, and staking out a new and heretofore unsuspected plot of creative high ground in the art firmament. The Art firmament. The use of symbols to stand for other symbols is nothing less than inspired. Especially when you realise that those other symbols themselves are mere signposts to a deeper layer of symbolism, and that beyond that threshold lies further contrasting layers of allegory, metaphor and figurative onanism (frankly, it's symbolism all the way down). And for the less discriminating viewer, there is still much amusement and innocent diversion to be had from reflecting on why you would have placed Don's hand so lovingly across your own posthumous crotch.
This is my top pick of all images entered in this thread. 10/10. Thank you. |

Actually, you brought up a valid question, created an award-winning (and award-burying) image, and developed a surefire strategy for winning a posthumous ribbon. I think you should get a 007 License to Hijack! |

I have to disagree. This is Grotesque. Grotesque is the new Sublime. Symbolism is so yesterday. Every part of the image is singular. The image itself, paradoxically, has no parts; it is a singular whole. Every aspect of the paradox anchors it more firmly in the grotesquerie that passes, in the here-and-now, FOR the here-and-now. A coffin has no crotch. A deflated blue, hand-shaped balloon is not a balloon. This is not a pipe. This is not a dream. But ART, my friend, ART is the ultimate pipe dream. The dreamer and the prospect of the dream are one, the prospect and the result of the dream are one, the dream and the pipe and the artist are one, and the smoke of the dream is the stuff of nightmares.

Those last few posts are making my head hurt. This is why I'm not a deep thinker. Just show me pretty pictures.

I'm going to step out of my arena in an attempt to burst bubbles in the unfamiliar world of fine art critique and disagree with both previous assessments and say that it is crap. Just crap.

ashes to ashes, crap to crap (something doesn't sound right there...)
Actually when I first typed it, I made a typo and I liked that version better:
ashes to ashes, crap to carp!

Ya know, I am looking at my Bucket List right now and I just don't see "Running around naked with Slippy" on it anywhere. :/ |

That's because there's a hole in your bucket. (Slippy made it. Don't ask why.) |

See? I told you there was a deeper meaning. Craps Carps are notorious bottom feeders; can't say deeper than that. You're stuck with it, KP: a whole new movement ... 'The Art Firmament'.

I was so excited when I saw this thread appear yesterday (with just 2 or 3 posts in it). I set it to "watch" and expected to upload an image in contribution to the theme. I had already headed to bed tonight when I suddenly rememberd it, got up and turned the computer back on. I uploaded an image, which was originally a candidate for the October Free Study. I went with another for the FS, both because I didn't think it would do well there, and because I thought I had a place to put it on display here.
After uploading it, I came to check out the thread to discover that it's a Challenge Suggestion and not a "post your image here" thread... lol... I feel so cheated, and lame.
That's one cold fish to be served. I'm going back to bed...
