I know where that is!

Shooting with a Leica, no matter the era, is a different ball game than shooting with a SLR. They used to make longer focal length lenses for the rangefinder Leicas, but it also required a reflex housing to use the lens, so what's the point?

//en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leica_Camera

Scrool down and look at the images on the right in the wiki article and you'll see the reflex housing.

Good reading David - thanks! I've seen the reflex body too actually.

I forgot to mention BTW that the school picture above is from an in-camera JPG. I had it set to both RAW and JPG and imported them at work where I'm not able to read DNG from the M9. That would explain the very rich colors (I think). All settings should be standard since I haven't touched them.

NO way, uh uh, not that much, far too expensive for what it is.. Its a brand name you are buying into - its like a CK T-Shirt or D&G sunglasses, nothing hugely special about them apart from the name.

TrollMan, I just couldn't take it anymore. I picked up the new Leica K9... A joint venture between Leica and Kodak.

Of course, I am open to trades! :-)

Not good comparisons; a t-shirt, for example, is pretty much just a t-shirt. When you get into precision machinery, you're in a different world. Now, you can argue that the amount of gain you have from the extra bucks spent isn't a reasonable tradeoff, and you'd be right, for most people.

But for some people, perfect precision is worth the extra cost, and for such people, the camera is worth it.

The argument, of course, isn't limited to cameras. Priced a Bentley lately? No way that's worth the premium you pay over, say, a Cadillac, right? I mean they both are luxurious, they both have 4 wheels and 8 cylinders, they both seat 5 passengers and have electric windows, etc etc. But if I were in the market for a luxury car and cost wasn't an issue with me, I'd sure prefer that Bentley... Make mine a Continental Supersport, with a fitted receptacle for my M9...

your photos with this camera are stunning!!! I would have to win the lottery to give this camera a try ( not impossible)!! I have a LX3, and love it...probably the LX5 is going to be as close as I can get to this camera----and, that isn't very close!!

Gawd, I love Swiss watches. I'd have half a dozen high-end ones if I could afford them. Have to satisfy myself with a brace of Wengers...
