I am putting together the things I need to do my home made landscape, and had a question that I hope some of you seasoned members can help me out on. I don't want to break any of the rules, I know there is a rule about using existing artwork. I am wondering if it is breaking the rules to use existing artwork as a background (such as sky) for my homemade landscape. I don't want to go to all this work only to be disqualified later.

I hope someone answers you here because I've been wondering the same thing.

I noticed in the last homemade landscape challenge several people did, but that was several years ago and I don't know if things have changed since then.

As far as I can read, that use would be completely alright, especially in this challenge. The rule states "include images that are clearly recognizable as existing artwork when photographing your entry. Images that could be mistaken for real objects in the scene may also be included, but must not be so prominent that voters are basically judging a photo of a photo."

This means that voters cannot be simply judging a photo that entirely consists of another photo. If a photo appears somewhere in your photo, maybe your photo is of someone admiring a photo in a museum, that's perfectly fine. Also, look at all the entries that are more or less just a graffiti/mural wall. I'm guessing a vast majority of those are not spray painted just for the photo op.
