While not the most likely candidate to start a Baseball thread,
the San Francisco Giants don't get into the World Series that often,
So, here's my offering:
GO GIANTS.
Columnist Jon Carroll says it best... about how San Francisco handles such fame!

Any team that has to potentially face Cliff lee for 3 starts has their work cut out for them. |

Baseball is still going on? I live in Pittsburgh, and we've never heard of baseball going beyond September. |

agree. while i have family in sf with whom i will root....i personally won't be upset to see the rangers get their 1st. (i know i know 56 years and counting but come on...their FIRST!)
i'll be happy with a well played, well officiated, competitive WS

Yep, 56 years and with any luck, no more counting! The SF Giants have never won the World Series (but the NY Giants did 56 years ago)
The SF Giants got to the Series three times so far but always managed to be on the wrong side of the winning score.
I remember the 1989 one when we played the Oakland A's team - it was sort of billed as the "Freeway Series" until the freeways fell down during the Big Loma Prieta Earthquake that hit just before a game at Candlestick. Bits of the stadium fell down (as well as a lot of other bits of San Francisco) and for one reason or another, the Series was postponed for 10 days. The Giants never did get it together again, though.
In any event, I too am hoping for a well-played and properly officiated game and - ahem - NO earthquakes.

Uh, living dangerously, I'll just say there is time to type this comment during a pitching change at game one ...
But you're right. He's an awesome pitcher. |

Well, a pitcher's duel it wasn't with both starting pitchers leaving early, and a final score of 11-7, but it gave the home town folk plenty to cheer about.
Wonder what tomorrow's game will bring? |

I can't believe they are even having a world series without the Yankees. Just doesn't seem right.

LOL - well, maybe now that the LEFT coast is involved, the Yankees won't be missed so much.
And since I started this thread, I guess I should report that in the just concluded 2nd game of the World Series, it was another local crowd pleaser with the San Francisco Giants scoring 9 to 0. A day will pass without a game and then the Rangers will have the chance to produce local crowd pleasers when they get the home field advantage.
Now, one last question for the evening. Spitting. Is it somehow a boy thing that boys seem to spit so much, especially when their profiles are nicely emblasoned on TV? do all boys do this, or only baseball boys?
Girls don't spit, do we?

In September the Giants had the lowest team ERA of any team, ever, in the history of baseball. 1.85. Then they cut Barry Zito from the roster, cause without him it would have been a team ERA of 1.47
Cliff Lee had a season ERA of 3.81. Only eleven pitchers on the Giants staff had a better ERA in the regular season. He got much better in September when his ERA dropped to 1.93 only six Giants had better ERAs in September.
But all the press is about Lee in this series, and Halladay in the last series.
The Giants were supposed to lose to the Braves.
Then Las Vegas set 2 to 1 odds for the Phillies to beat the Giants. Folks at ESPN and Fox talked about the brilliance of Roy Halladay and Roy Oswalt. About the batting power of the Phillies.
Now we hear about the brilliance of Cliff Lee and C J Wilson, and the power of the Rangers offense. 2 to 1 favorites to beat the Giants......again. Has no one east of the Mississippi seen the Giants? They have some pitchers who are good.
For the Yankee fans, be happy.Cliff Lee is a rent-a-player, signed on for the stretch run, he will be in pinstripes next year. The Giants big pitchers all came up through their farm system, the only big contract they signed didn't make the play off roster, and the guys who joined the team for the run for the play offs were cut from other teams. I'm cheering for the team of cast offs and weirdos, the team that get no credit, go Giants. |

my sister was AT the "earthquake game" and loves telling the tale. no electricity, people packed in the streets, they walked to bars that had opened their doors for free and people sat around drinking in stunned silence. she has a phobia about being in stadiums since.... |

I realize the interest in this World Series contest is running high. I can hardly get a word in edge-wise in this scintillating discussion.
It is unfortunate that the press of other duties forced me to miss today's game.
Nevertheless, since it has not been reported elsewhere, it is my duty to report that the home team advantage has struck again and the Rangers have taken game three by a score of 4-2.
More reportage tomorrow.

I have to pop in here. Rangers finally started to calm down tonight and play like we are used to seeing them play, yet still not stellar. The fact that the Rangers have NEVER been to a World Series (as the Rangers) makes this very exciting for us locals. What a fabulous night for baseball, too!
The Ranger catcher will get a World Series ring no matter who wins the series. :)
1 more out and on to game 4! Yea, Rangers!!!!!

Interesting twist is that both Benji and Chris Ray (who was the other half of the deal) are both slotted to get a ring whoever wins, and oddly enough, both should be able to collect a World Series monetary winner's share and a looser's share.
Feliz, a rookie who hadn't thrown in 9 days, looked amazing. Location wasn't perfect, but his stuff was electric, he has such an easy motion to create such velocity. His stuff reminds me of Angles closer Francisco Rodriguez in his first year. If he can get some offspeed stuff he believes in he will have a great career.
My guess is that they split the remaining games in Arlington .The crystal ball says win Sunday behind Bumgarner, lose the rematch of Aces , and head back to AT&T park where the Rangers are have never won a game and Cain carries an ERA of 0.00 in the playoffs. |

Lovely game tonight, at least for Giants fans as it has just ended in a 4-0 victory for San Francisco.
