Feel free to not participate in any challenges that don't appeal to ya, Ray. That's what I do.

Hey, that's not fair!

If you're allowed to "like", then others are allowed to "not like".

I DON'T LIKE, either, so there....... bite me!

Yeah, you're right Karin - good idea. We should all chime in on ideas that we don't like just because we don't like them. It makes for a much friendlier DPC. Consider yourself bitten. :P

Would this count?

My opinion? If he were metal plated and on a colonel's uniform, then yes.

I say go the whole hog and add the police, bikers, construction workers. Maybe even a cowboy and red indian. All the macho types.

First off, due to lack of body language, I want to make it clear that I am grinning at the "Consider yourself bitten" remark and I am perfectly happy to have a very friendly little disagreement.

Having said that, now onto business.

I see your point, Ken. It is nice to be all mushy and happy and positive. I love group hugs, too.

On the other hand, the point of making a challenge suggestion in a public forum thread is to put an idea out there to be heard. However, isn't it also about finding out how that idea is received by others?

There is no point saying :"Hey guys, how about this idea? What do you think?" but then adding: "Don't bother answering unless your opinion is the same as mine. I don't actually want anybody's thought, I only want validation of MY brilliance"

Just because someone calmly answers that he/she doesn't find a particular challenge suggestion all that appealing, does NOT make DPC an unfriendly place.

Now I better go attend to my bites...... with all those Godzilla germs that hang around you, it is bound to fester :-(

Sorry, but I don't believe that that really is your reason.

Look at your photo, dude. You just don't want to hear everybody yelling "eeeeeewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww!!!!!!!!!!" and having to deal with the rejection of everyone running off in all directions as fast as they can! ;-)

I see your point as well, Karin, but it seems to me that not saying anything / ignoring ideas that don't appeal to you in this forum is the most effective way to not support it. There was not even any reasoning in Ray's response. It makes no sense to me to post simply that you don't like an idea as a response to every challenge idea that doesn't appeal to you. If he had made an argument such as "I hate the military because a tank ran over my dog when I was a lad" or "I'm in the Peace Corps" then I would not have said anything. ;-)

And that is exactly what I do, too, 99.5% of the time I dislike something like that.

However, perhaps it is the very topic of "military" that makes it harder to simply ignore it and shrug it off.

There are two very valid sides to this whole discussion, and probably one of those times where there really is no single right or best way to go about it.

We may just have to keep hugging, then biting, then hugging..........

Big man in camouflage outfit holding big gun to this ole fellas head >>>. RayEthier

I have reconsidered and do believe that this would be a GREAT challenge topic.

Seriously, I can't say that I am all that enthralled about a challenge dealing exclusively with the military. A topic such as "Unsung Heroes" would be more inclusive and still enable participants to include whatever group they wish to honour.

The succinct comment I made should not to be misconstrued as my having a dislike for things military, as I have several brothers that served in the Armed Forces in both Canada and the USA.

I hope this clarifies things a tad.

Actually, that turned out Okay...we didn't have to open the door to let the dog back in at night...he simply manoeuvered himself through the cracks... and he was a treat to take out on a leash on windy days...I still remember how he would float out into the sunset.

I sure miss that dog. :O)
