I am pretty stoked. I have been in contact with a local portrait/wedding photographer and it looks like I am going to be his assistant/intern/gopher. I am pretty happy with this. I love his style and I know I can learn a lot from him. I won't be getting compensated monetarily but I feel the knowledge will be worth much more as I plan on making a career out of photography. I have my first session with him this Saturday.

This is his website Jeff East Photography

IMO, the fact that you like his style of photography is the critical thing; it's great that you have found someone with whom you can work and gain experience. Congrats!

Im also thinking about doing something simular to this sometime soon. But that is really cool that you found a photographer that you actually like. Hopefully everything goes well with this experience! good luck!

Great work Josh! Hope all goes well for you. Magnumphotography apprenticed under a photog for a few years and now I am benefiting by having my own private photog tutor, who makes me learn something new every time we go out to shoot for a day :-)

Thank you. I have a few friends, one of which is doing very well as a wedding photographer. She does really great work but her style is not what I prefer. I can't wait to start working with this guy.

I wish I had that focus when I was your age. I do hope you find someone who will really teach you and you will learn great things from. Too many younger people (and older ones too) get a camera and put their adds on craigslist. It is good to see that there is still some respect for the trade and the people that have been working in in for awhile. Good luck to you.

Thanks Susan. I have learned a great deal from many of the great photogs here but I am looking for the hands on approach. Even though I will just be carrying equipment and holding lights and reflectors starting out I know this will really help in the long run as long as I am willing to learn and he to teach.

It looks like I will be put to work this Saturday. Jeff has a Senior shoot and has asked if I wanted to help.
