So I follow a few sports photographers, and one of the best who's work I love does great 'remote' work. Here is one reason why you need insurance on your gear when doing so, and also why they are unmanned.

It's not really for the faint of heart if you are a gear lover. But I find it OK to look at, since it's 'Nikon' stuff. :D

Not nearly as hazardous, but this winner in the portrait category of wildlife photographer of the year left his camera on the ice for the polar bear to play with and fired it remotely. I AM surprised he won though...
