Hello oh great DPC CABAL!!! I've been a lurker on here for a while and decided to take the jump. I'm a visual effects artist who specalizes in lighting and animation. I've always been "into" photography, but it's always been an afterthought in my life. In the last 2 years or so I've been trying to take it more seriously...I guess that started when I was working at Sony and was able to pick up a new A700 for $400 bucks w/kit lense. Prior to that I was just using my little Cannon power shot. I've been using photoshop since roughly version 2.5....so before I got that Sony...I was just using photoshop to get my desired depth of field. I love working with photos in photoshop, I don't use to many "filters" or anything like that. I just like to paint, dodge, burn, rubber stamp and airbrush.
I'm still developing my "look"...and I'm just now starting to run into lens limitations, which is kind of nice. It makes me feel like I'm learning. At any rate, here is my first photo that I'm posting up, it's actually the first photo I've ever done starting from a RAW photo, and edited at full resolution.
This is a shot of the start of the Tri Nations rugby game in Sydney, Australia. The NEW ZEALAND ALL BLACKS stand alone in the Rugby world, they are just a bit different. One thing that sets them appart is the dance they do before each match, called the HAKA. It's an ALL BLACKS tradition, so I wanted to get a picture of that moment. I wish I was closer, blah blah blah....I just took this from my seat..with my A700 and it's kit lense (Not sure what it is at the moment). I wanted to impart that feeling that the ALL BLACKS are kind of alone in this Rugby world, about to face off against the ENTIRETY of Australia!!!
This forum is full of tallent, I hope to learn a lot from you all. OK GO..TEAR IT APPART. Me...I think I could crop it a bit (But I'm unsure of how it will print if I crop and, in effect, ENLARGE the "pixels"...maybe put some stars in the sky. It works a lot better when you see it big and can make out the ALL BLACKS a bit better.

p.s. the "light rays" shining down on the ALL BLACKS is in the actual camera output....which I was pleased about as I LOVE ME SOME LIGHT EFFECTS!

Looks great, I think you will give us all some competition in the challenges. Welcome to the phunny pharm of photography!
If I can make a suggestion though, It's polite around here to try to post clickable thumbnails in the forums, when possible, or at least small images. It keeps the discussions tidy and any anyone that wants to view the full image can click on it. Since you have ponied up for a paid membership, you have a portfolio here that you can post images in. Here's how to do a thumbnail:
If you have a flickr account, you can also do thumbnails that link to that

Welcome, and I add to what Yo said, that you might want to resize your photos to 640 or 800 px longest side, and medium or small file size if you plan to post a lot of photos to your portfolio. That way you will not run out of portfolio space for a long time.
Side challenges are a good way to meet people here, and get lots of feedback with no risk of a low score.

Ohh...ok I'll do the thumbnail to flickr account! I'll see if I can edit my post.
Can't wait to jump in on the challenges. I work VERY slowly, it kind of sucks to be honest. I seem to have to much fun looking in my library of old images and working with them to go out and take new pictures..DOH!! I spent maybe 8 hours in photoshop on that one, I've been burned out since then! That is my toughest challenge, to actually do work. In roughly 2 or 3 years, I've got 3 prints in my apartment..HA!
:-D
