I have been thinking about buying a new telephoto lens to give me a greater range than my 100-300mm USM.

I have tried the Sigma lens and was quite impressed. I havent yet tried the Canon but believe it to be better, and lighter. The down side of the Sigma was it weight.

Anyone have any thoughts on this?

Try checking out Fred Miranda's reviews if you haven't already.

Edit: Changed the site completely. :)

I have recently used the Sigma 80-400mm EX w/Image Stabilization and found it's results amazing. May be another one to consider. There are some sports pictures of baseball in my profile if you want to check them out. I believe they were all taken with the Sigma 80-400mm. All of the images are commented with the lens. It is just a little over 3lbs. but feels real nice on the Digital Rebel. If you want some full res images taken with the Sigma 80-400 I can send them to you. The IS is amazing on this lens.
