Hi there.

I hope to visit the USA for the first time next year, and i was planing on going to NY for maybe 2 days and than cruize around North and South Carolina for maybe 2 weeks.

If someone here is very familiar with the 2 states i would really like to get some tips about what places to see and photograph. I want to experience the country feeling.

Or if u have any ideas what would be the most interresting place to visit.

Thanx alot

Regards from Iceland

Asheville, NC has a couple of points of interest: the Biltmore House is a display of 20th century opulence...the best and worst of American capitalism in one place. Just south of Asheville is Chimney Rock, an interesting hiking experience built around a peculiar rock formation. A lot of the movie "The Last of the Mohicans" was shot there.
The southeast section of the Great Smoky Mtns National Park is in NC.
That's the limit of my experience. Have a good time!

Thanx :)

Just any info at all.

It would also be awesome to meet some photographers in the Area next summer.

The Carolina Coast line is quite nice as well, especially if you go to the more rural areas that haven't been saturated with vacation homes.

just off the top of my head, this is what i would do.

fly into raliegh-durham airport, get a car, then make a big loop

i did the best i could with mapquest, but some of the "suggested" routes aren't necessarily perfect. however, it's close enough to give you an idea. you can't see everything, but this will let you see a lot, from the coast to the mountains, cities and towns, crossroads, swamps, farmland, and everything in between.

enjoy, and be sure to share what you shoot!

Hey NICE !!

Thanx a bunch !

one other thing, how is pricing in these " not so crazy tourism towns " ?

i would like to guess that nc and sc would be alot cheaper then NY .. in terms of food and accomodation, am i right ?

And What car rental is the best in the USA ? ( pricewize, and service wise )

If you decide to stay in Western North Carolina, do not stay inside Asheville, Boone, Maggie Valley, or Cherokee. There are a lot of smaller towns scattered amongst them that are a lot cheaper. For example, a motel in Canton may cost $60 a night while Maggie Valley or Asheville would be upwards of $150. The motel would be about 20 minutes from Asheville and 15 from Maggie Valley.

Likewise in upstate South Carolina.

are you staying in NYC? or just new york state, if not the city, where?

you wont find anything close to as high as NYC prices on the eastern seaboard.

most hotels and motels will jack up prices if there is a tourist attraction, but if you can find a hotel 10 miles or so away you can save a fortune.

download and check out google earth, its has hotels and restaurants plus reviews. Its my major tool in planning out a trip and looking for places to stay and eat.

according to my local paper here in Philadelphia, this past weekend, NYC and Charleston, SC are the ranked #1 and #3 respectively in top cities to travel to in the US. San Francisco is #2.

Not sure if you still need the info or not. I just joined and came across this post.

Charleston is beautiful but it is pricey during peak summer seasons. It is definitely worth it though.

As for North Carolina, I've been here all my live and it is a gorgeous state if you know where to look. Raleigh is a very populated area as is Charlotte.

The mountains are beautiful. They are rich in history and folklore and little surprises everywhere. The Blue Ridge Parkway is a must to see. It has breathtaking views.

North and South Carolina both have marvelous beaches. South Carolina beaches are more populated whereas North Carolina has a more relaxed scene.

Hope the info helps and I'm not to late with it. Enjoy your trip! :)
