I can no longer use the edit in CS5 option from LR2.

It was working, not it has stopped.

I've forced the CS5 preference file to be regenerated however still have the problem.

Has anyone else experienced this? Any suggestions for how to fix. The adobe forums only mentioned the preference replacement.

ETA: ... and now it's working again with the original preference file. :o/

... and now it has stopped again.

Removing the preferences file does not fix it.

Any ideas?

ETA: It looks like rebooting is the only thing that gets LR2 and CS5 playing nice again.

I wonder if you have an issue with too little available RAM? A freshly rebooted system will have the maximum available RAM, so it makes sense that you might have succe3ss after a reboot, but not after some time.

You know kirbic, that may be my issue. I never shut down my system, I put it to sleep. I should make it a habit of rebooting before I work on images, just to see.

When closing CS5 or LR, is it REALLY closing - I have an issue with Outlook where I shut it down, but the process is still running in the background. when I try to relaunch nothing happens - its only when I go into task manager, locate the process and kill it off I am able to start Outlook again. I know this is a completely different application but it might be worth a punt.

I've experienced that with Firefox but nothing else. I have task manager open almost always to keep an eye on memory usage, kind of a habit now. Everything closes down when exited.

LR and PS have been know to have a memory leak so the RAM might be the issue. I have 4GB of RAM and the problem arose this time when I switched catalogues in LR then tried to open an image in CS5. Even if I close and re-open both LR and CS5, the issue is still there until I reboot. I'm thinking that preferences in LR got mangled somehow as nothing has changed in CS5.

BTW, this is on a MAC.

When you use the edit option in LR is photoshop already running? If not launch it first and then try it. If it is already running try lowering the amount of memory Photoshop uses and see if that helps any. Also which Photoshop is assigned to the edit option, the 32bit or 64bit version? I know you're on a Mac but in Windows the 64bit version makes more use of the OS memory.

It doesn't matter whether PS is running or not. If it's not PS will start but the image won't be loaded. If it is, the image won't be loaded. There's only one CS 5 app installed and that's the one referenced in LR. (It's the 64 bit version)

I checked the PS performance settings and they were in the recommended range though I still reduced the memory assigned and the number of history states. We'll see if I run into this less often now.
