Hi there, just posted my very first photos, not sure if I'm doing this correct if I'm missing something or posting in the wrong section of my portfolio, guess what I'm trying to say is, I feel lost ! Can a kind soul guide me through this phase of initiation ?
Oh and I seek feedback and comments, just been shooting for 2yrs and completely self taught, with a hunger to improve with each photograph.
Thanks so very much,
EyeArt

I see two pics in your portfolio. A lily and some cypress trees They look pretty good to me. Would hold up well in a challenge. It's usually best when asking for feedback to post one or two thumbnails in the thread that you specifically would like feedback on. When your portfolio grows, making it easy to find the new pics will get you more feedback than if people have to go hunting.

Here's how to post thumbnails, if you have not figured that out yet:

Welcome. I saw two shots in your portfolio. Left comments on both.

You're doing fine so far!

Now you can go to "My Portfolio" and look down at the bottom for a link to "Create New Collection"; you can create folders in your portfolio, like for "Flowers", "Challenge Entries", "Portraits", whatever you want.

Note also a link to "Workshop" in the menu bar, and it exists as a folder in your portfolio. Images you post in workshop or any sub-folder of workshop you may create can only be viewed by others who have the link, so that's a private area basically.

If you were trying to enter a contest, you did something wrong... If you just wanted to share 2 very nice pictures with us, then you were successful.

Images here are best resized in your software to 800 pixels on the longest side.

MAKE SURE YOU UNDERSTAND WHAT IS MEANT BY "ORIGINAL IMAGE" IN TERMS OF VALIDATION <--(Very important)

DPC likes bright images, DPC likes sharp images, DPC likes images that are emotive or tell a story (or include wineglasses, but that's a different story)..

The most important rule is to use the forums a ton! The people here can teach you a bunch of really cool stuff, and we mostly enjoy answering questions, so first give it a nice Googling (it always looks silly when a simple Google search can answer the question..), and then hit the forums for the details! Some people here, like Bear_music have been doing photography so long that they actually used to enter photo competitions with Ansel Adams.. Of course, he entered here once, but was disqualified for being dead or something of the sort... Really a shame, it was a nice picture of a little church a bit north of here....

Stay out of the forums, those people are crazy..

Stay away from the update button, it'll make you crazy.....

If you're not shooting in RAW it's a great time to start.

If someone accuses you of being Rose, it's actually ok to hunt them down and stab them in the face...

HDR's are usually popular if well done.

Stay out of >> Rant, there's nothing there you want to read.

Everyone here has a boatload of issues and problems, so feel free to share, we'll understand, or at least sympathize..

Bright colors are your friends.

If it looks great as a thumbnail you might have a shot at a good score

Your score means nothing (or everything)

People will always vote 1 on something that doesn't deserve it.. There are 50 rationalizations as to the possibilities of why, but you'll never know, so don't bother speculating.
..

We know there is a forum section labeled "Web Site Suggestions", we also know you mostly shouldn't bother..

>..> There's a ton more.. But see the most important rule above it (use the forums... Just be aware that you will slowly loose your sanity to the DPC monster...) Oh, and welcome again - it's so nice to see fresh faces.. :)

Wow, this is a week for newbies! Welcome, and try not to feel overwhelmed. The single most important thing when you enter challenges is to READ THE RULES!!!!! It's sometimes really easy to overlook and you WILL get DQ'd. Just ask Jutilda, or any other ribbon winner who BROKE THE RULES.
