When I downloaded my photos from my Canon 30D some of the setting were altered in CS4. I took it as a B&W in the camera. When downloaded it was reverted to color and lost all camera settings. Any ideas? Thanks

If you were shooting in RAW, the B/W you saw was an applied "style". Though the camera diaplyed it with the style applied, the RAW image was still in color. I always shoot that way and convert to B/W on the computer where I have more control over it.

i actually have a simular question. when I shoot with mine, its also in RAW, but it appears to have more contrast on the camera then when i download it to my laptop. so is that just because its on my laptop? or the same thing with the BW issue...?

What you see on the screen on the camera is an embedded JPEG that it shows on the screen. Meaning it would have the JPEG adjustments done to it, your raw after downloading would not.

Also something that I've learned after that, in my Nikon, none of the changes I made in settings (contrast, sharpness, etc) mattered in RAW, since it outputs the image in its most basic (and pardon the redundancy) raw format there is.

It's really handy if you want to get a preview of the photo before processing it, I use it all the time for landscapes (increasing the saturation and contrast) and for b&w portraits (with colour filters).
