I've been spending most of the morning searching for umbrella brackets. It sounds like it's hard to find a good one. Each time I find one that looks interesting, something is wrong with it.
I was looking at a calumet bracket, and it says that it doesn't point into the umbrella, that it points at the top part of the umbrella, which I would think would change the light coming out of the umbrella. Others say that the 580EX is too large and ends up in the wrong spot.
Does anyone use their canon flashes on a stand with an umbrella? If so, could you please recommend an umbrella bracket? I need to purchase 2 by Wednesday, and I'm starting to get very nervous that I'll purchase the wrong ones and then not have time to get better functioning ones.

i use lumopro ones purchased from www.mpex.com theyve worked just fine and been both durable and reliable.

I have a couple of these brackets from Adorama.
As you said about the other bracket, the flash does end up pointing into the top rather than the center. The reason is that the coldfoot and the mount slot for the umbrella are both on the same segment so they move together. It may make a minor difference in light distribution, but I don't think it's a critical one. Besides, for $16 the price is right. I've seen similar brackets in local shops under different brand names for about $25.
