I just noticed that the 7D can use a wireless remote trigger. Has anyone used the RC-1, RC-6 or RC-5 remote triggers? Do you have an opinion on them?
It also sounds like you can't push the button half way down to focus and then all the way to trigger like you can with the wired option. Is this true? (they don't seem to explain them very well...)

| I just tried it with an RC-1. The remote works fine, but there's no half-shutter press. It will focus and take the shot at the same time (like pressing the shutter button all the way), although you do have the option of a 2-second delay. |

I have had the RC-1 since buying my Rebel XT about 5 years ago. For years I wondered why the hell Canon did not enable all their cameras with this feature. I knew it was a little thing I would miss whenever I thought about upgrading, until the 7D came along (not that it was the only factor). So obviously I like it.
As for the autofocus, it will still work, there will just be a slight delay before the shutter is released due to focusing. But I have never actually done this, since I always manually focus when I use the remote. Otherwise how do you know what will actually be in focus?
For about ~ $30, you can't beat it.

| We just purchased the RC-6 and were told it would work with the 40D, pretty sure it's compatible with the 7D. We have yet to use it but the cost was only $25. |

really?! When I looked for ones compatible with the 40D, they said that they wouldn't work. Let me know if it does work -- I still have my 40D body for backup.

Phottix remote
I have had this remote for several years. I've used it with a 20D, 30D, 40D, 1D, 1DMKII, 1DsMKII, 1DMKIII, 5D, 5DII, 1DMKIV, and 7D.
I did not buy mine from that retailer, but did get it online, just can't remember where. It gives me wireless and wired all in one. I even bought one and sent it to Karmat I think as a gift. You can ask her about it.
I love mine and if it ever breaks I'll buy another one.

After trying it out seems like the camera guy at the store didn't know what he was talking about...the RC-6 does work for my wife's camera but not mine. Guess I'll be buying another!! |
