So I am still struggling with my pricing pakages. I know what I need/want to make and print prices but not sure of the best way to implement that. Session fee + package, all inclusive package, a la carte, etc...

So to get an idea I made a survey and put it on my facebook business site. I would like you all to go take the survey as well if you would. If you are a pro that has a system just choose what works best for you, if you would be on a client end please choose which you would like to see offered by your local photographers. Thank you all.

I took the survey and would be very interested in the results if you don't mind sharing. Also, is surveymonkey integrated into your fb page or did you just provide a link from FB? I'm interested in doing some surveys as well..

I'm not sure if there is a way to integrate it into fb directly so it is just a link I posted. I will provide the results.

Well not much of a success but perhaps more people will continue to take it. So far it is broken down like so.

If you could choose when getting portraits done would you rather?

Pay a small session fee and have set package options 22.2% 4
Pay a session fee and have a custom package setup for you 16.7% 3
Have an all inclusive price for everything including prints 55.6% 10
Pay a larger session fee and purchase prints a la carte at a reduced rate 11.1% 2

While 19 is not much of a number to base anything off of it does seem as though people do not like to pay a session fee. So I am thinking I may just incorporate my session fee into the package price.

What happes if they decide not to buy a package or they get cold feet when it's time to buy a package?

I was thinking that when they setup a session I would have them pay 1/2 down then the rest upon delivery.

For the last two seasons I've charged no session fee but I have a minimum purchase requirement so I don't have to worry about people getting cold feet. This minimum purchase could be collected as a deposit as some additional motivation for the client to make their order. This has worked quite well and I recently noticed that some of the more well known senior photographers have taken a similar approach.

As for packages, my experience has been that everybody wants them when they are shopping but in the end they want to customize the package to suit their needs. Now I just have a la carte pricing and simply tell clients that they can build their own package and I'll give them a discount based on their overall purchase.
