I want to scan a lot of my older images so I can just archive and also maybe sell on DPC Prints. Anyway what resolution would you need to get nice 8 x 12 shots? Sive of files doesn't bother me as I have a nice new DVD burner to save everything too :) I am sure a lot of people have also done this in the past, so I appreciate any guidence you can give.
Thanks :)

Scan at the highest native (optical) resolution your scanner has, and save as either Photoshop or uncompressed TIFF to your DVD's. You can reduce to size from there ...
There's another recent thread on this, try a forum search -- I have to leave or I'd find it for you ... |

300ppi at the final size of 8x12 should give you plenty of latitude for offset or giclee printing. If possible, scan the negs or slides, whatever the first generation is. If you scan prints you'll be acquiring the paper texture as well as your image. Save as "tiff" since it's a lossless compression. If you use LZW compression with it, you will usually save 50% of the files size from raw. If using Photoshop, save with a color profile.
